Abstract: This is the second report in a series describing applications with the new shoreline change and sand transport model, GenCade. It is considered as a companion report to the first report in the GenCade series, Frey et al. (2012a), and provides additional details that were not described in that report. This report describes basic assumptions in GenCade, requirements to run the model, and recommendations about important GenCade capabilities. While all of the basic assumptions are discussed, this report also considers if the assumptions are satisfied and describes a procedure to follow when they are not. All of the required and optional input and output files are explained, and common user errors in model setup, with solutions, are detailed. These user errors may not be evident to new users but are easily corrected. Although the model will run even if the recommendations are not followed, the results may not represent the regional system as well as if properly set up. The recommendations section explains specific capabilities like the regional contour and the Inlet Reservoir Model (IRM) and topics such as project work flow and grid cell spacing. By following these recommendations, the user will produce better results. Finally the path forward for the model and future guidance are discussed.
