From the Preface: This report presents the results of a scientific study of some of the inter-relationships between the natural variables involved in beach phenomena. This work was done during the period March to May 1942 under the sponsorship of the Beach Erosion Board, War Department, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley, by W. C. Krumbein, senior geologist.
This paper was originally published with a restricted classification in May, 1944, as Engineering Notes No. 17, Military Intelligence Division, Office, Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army.
