dc.description.abstractIce plagues the operation and maintenance of many U.S. Army Corps of Engineers locks and dams. Because these structures vary greatly in age, geographical setting, and design, their performance in ice also varies. This report describes the ice problems related to specific project components such as the lock approaches, miter gates, lock walls, and dam spillway gates. Post-construction solutions such as high-flow bubblers and heat deicing methods are also described. The report provides a one-source overview of the important ice problems faced by operators of Corps projects, available ice management solutions, and areas where improvements are most needed.-
