Abstract: A technique is described for detecting and recognizing various bridge patterns with different orientation angles from a set of radar imagery. The algorithm combines Hough transform, Sobel edge operator, image thresholding methods, and decision logics and was implemented as a software for an experimental hardware system consisting of a 32-element by 32-element solid-state array, a minicomputer, and a computer-controlled translational stage. The resolution of bridge orientation angle detection was determined to be approximately 22.S degrees for the current system setup. This resolution can be improved by enlarging the input measurement array size.-
