Abstract: The purpose of the proposed action is to prepare the site for a floodgate at Humble Canal as a feature of the MRT-MTG project that will provide hurricane and storm damage risk reduction for the communities located within the MRT-MTG levee system in accordance with the project described in the re-authorization of the MRT-MTG project in Section 7002(3)5 of WRRDA 2014, as updated by the MRT-MTG Engineering Documentation Report (EDR) which is being concurrently prepared. The overarching goal is to reduce the risk to people and property in the vicinity of Houma, Louisiana. All project benefits are related to hurricane and storm damage risk reduction. No flood damage risk reduction, navigation, or ecosystem restoration benefits are quantified for this project. The project is needed because of the increasing susceptibility of coastal communities to storm surge due to wetland loss, sea level rise, subsidence, and climate change.
