Abstract: Environmen~al characterization work reported herein was authorized jointly by Headquarters, U. S. Army Materiel Command and the U. S. Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM). The work was done in support of two projects: (1) The Generation of Micro-Seismic Signals by Vehicles and (2) The Signature Study Program, Phase II, being conducted by the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) and 'l'ACOM, respectively. Funds for this work were provided under appropriation number 2122040. The work was performed at the General Motors Corporation, Milford Proving Grounds, Milford, Michigan. This report presents the results of the environmental site characterization performed 18 July-4 August 1972 by personnel of the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES). Engineers of WES employed in the field investigation, analysis, and report phases of the study were Messrs. J. R. Curro, Jr., Soils and Pavements Laboratory (SPL), C. A. Miller, Mobility and Environmental Systems Laboratory (MESL), and S. W. Guy, Instrumentation Services Division (ISD). The work was conducted under the direct supervision of Mr. B. 0. Benn, Acting Chief, Environmental Research Branch, MESL; and Mr. R. F. Ballard, Jr., Chief, Geodynamics Branch, SPL; and under the general supervision of Messrs. W. G. Shockley, Chief, MESL; J, P. Sale, Chief, SPL; W. E. Grabau, Acting Chief, Environmental Systems Division, MESL; and R. W. Cunny, Acting Chief, Earthquake Engineering and Vibrations Division, SPL. This report was prepared by Mr. Curro. COL Ernest D. Peixotto, CE, was Director of WES during the conduct of this study and the preparation and publication of the report. Mr. F. R. Brown was Technical Director.
