Description: Technical Report
Summary: This section of the manual outlines procedures: to be used in determining the wheel-load evaluation of flexible and rigid Airfield pavements for areas of seasonal freezing and thawing within the Zone of the Interior. Procedures for obtaining-data, related specifically to frost effects are described herein. Such data when combined with information normally obtained in an evaluation program are sufficient for determining the frost condition evaluation. Where conditions of soil temperature and groundwater at a facility indicate that detrimental frost action will occur in the base or subgrade materials, the wheel-load capacity of the pavement will generally be limited by the frost evaluation criteria, unless other criteria are specifically established.
