Summary: This conference was attended by representatives from the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Minnesota, SIPRE, the Canadian Air Force and the National Research Council of Canada. The purpose of the meeting was to find out what various groups were doing and what cooperation could be rendered. The speakers discussed the work on snow compaction in the U.S., Canada and Switzerland, snow classification, new or modified apparatus for snow surveying designed by the University of of Minnesota, and the relationship between soils and snow mechanics. The recommendations during the final discussion included development of a scheme of snow classification and a standard hardness test related to bearing pressure of snow.
