Abstract: The stability of nitroguanidine (NQ) was evaluated in three moist, unsaturated soils under laboratory conditions. The three soils were fortified using an aqueous spiking solution and the residual concentration of NQ was measured after storage for 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 days at 20ºC in the dark. The results yielded a range in the half-life decay estimates for nitroguanidine from 7.5 to 56 days, depending on the soil type. No attempt was made to determine environmental transformation products of NQ.
