dc.description.abstract | The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has prepared this Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and USACE Engineering Regulation 200-2-2. This EIS describes the potential comprehensive environmental consequences resulting from the application of proposed flood risk management elements, ecosystem restoration features, recreation enhancement features, interior drainage plan improvements, and other proposed projects in and around the Dallas Floodway in Dallas, Texas. Section 5141 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2007, as amended, provides a mechanism through which the USACE can participate in investigations and analyses regarding remediation of the existing Dallas Floodway, consider the need for replacement and reconstruction of features of the existing project, and examine changed conditions and possible engineering or construction deficiencies. Section 5141 of the WRDA of 2007, as amended, provides flexibility to undertake a comprehensive, system-wide analysis to evaluate proposed projects. The results of these investigations and analyses will be used to make determinations as to what work can be implemented pursuant to Section 5141 of the WRDA of 2007, as amended. The USACE, Fort Worth District is the proponent for this EIS, as the proposed project involves federal funding and federal interests in property. The City of Dallas is the non-federal sponsor, and the Federal Highway Administration is a cooperating agency. | en_US |
