Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact-
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District (District) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) are proposing to construct a levee, floodwall and pump station along Middle Brook and Raritan River south of West Main Street in the Borough of Bound Brook in Somerset County, NJ. The project is referred to as Segment R2 and is the remaining component to be constructed in the Bound Brook Element of the Green Brook Flood Damage Reduction Project (GBFDRP). This environmental assessment serves to supplement information known about site conditions along the Segment R2 project area resulting from new information obtained from the May 2007 Brook Industrial Park Superfund Site Removal Action Completion Report. Specifically, this Environmental Assessment will address the presence of arsenic and chromium in the western portion of the Segment R2 project area identified in soil samples taken in 2001 and 2006 during the remediation action. The purpose of this environmental assessment is to supplement the evaluation of potential environmental impacts that were previously addressed in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), New York District, Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Proposed Plan for the Green Brook Flood Control in the Green Brook Sub-Basin, Somerset, Middlesex and Union Counties, New Jersey, filed August, 1980 and the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (FSEIS) for the Proposed Plan for the Green Brook Flood Control in the Green Brook Sub-Basin, Somerset, Middlesex and Union Counties, New Jersey, filed in May 1997. This Environmental Assessment is being prepared to evaluate the significance of potential environmental impacts of the proposed action and determine if the proposed project change warrants the preparation of a supplemental environmental impact statement to the FSEIS and FEIS.en_US
