| dc.description.abstract | This Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) presents the results of studies to reexamine the feasibility of federal coastal storm damage risk reduction for the towns of Surf City and North Topsail Beach, which are on Topsail Island. The third of three towns on the island, Topsail Beach, comprises the southern 5 miles of the island. Topsail Island lies in Pender and Onslow counties, North Carolina, as indicated in Figure 1.1, Location and Vicinity Map. Surf City and North Topsail Beach are the project sponsors. The study evaluated alternative plans for reducing damages to the commercial and residential structures and infrastructure of Surf City and North Topsail Beach. The study has resulted in a recommendation to construct a berm and dune project with continuing renourishment. The scale and costs of the project have been optimized to produce the maximum net economic benefits, or National Economic Development (NED) Plan, as directed by federal planning guidelines. | en_US |
