Abstract: | The Pool Slough project area is located on the west side of the Mississippi River at the Iowa-Minnesota border in pool 9, near New Albin, Iowa. Part of the site lies in Minnesota within the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge (McGregor District). The remainder of the site lies in Iowa on lands owned by the IDNR. Plate 2 shows the general study area. The overall purposes or goals of this project are to preserve, restore and enhance migratory bird habitat in the area of pool 9 on the Upper Mississippi River. As described later in this report, this is consistent with the designated goals of the Refuge and the IDNR. |
