Abstract: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is studying the Bayou Meto Basin in Arkansas. This area includes portions of Lonoke, Jefferson, and Prairie counties. The majority of the project area is in the southern two-thirds of Lonoke County and in Jefferson County east of the Arkansas River. It is being jointly conducted by the USACE Memphis District, the USACE Vicksburg District, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The purpose of the study is to develop a project to provide flood control, agricultural water supply, groundwater protection and conservation, waterfowl management, and environmental enhancement and restoration. Under provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) is being prepared. NEPA requires an open and thorough process of studying the environment.
