Abstract: Allatoona is the oldest multipurpose project in the South Atlantic Division. It was authorized under the Flood Control Acts of August 18, 1941, and December 22, 1944, for the purposes of flood control and hydroelectric generation. The FCA of 1944 also authorized construction of recreation facilities. Allatoona was authorized for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, water supply and water quality, recreation and fish and wildlife management. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Georgia Department of Transportation reached an easement agreement for the construction of I-575 northbound and southbound bridges over Little River on April 11, 1980. GDOT was granted an easement for right-of-way for a controlled access highway. This Environmental Assessment is to address the impacts associated with the improvements to the I-575 bridge across Little River on USACE property.
