Description: Technical Memorandum
From the Introduction: As a basis for more accurate measurements of the useful life of steel sheet piling, the Beach Erosion Board, in cooperation with a number of District offices of the Corps of Engineers, made a survey of the rate of deterioration of steel sheet piling. Ninety-four structures along the Atlantic Coast of United States and the Gulf Coast of Florida were examined. The structures were selected for various conditions of exposure and treatment. Most were exposed to normal sea water or sea water only moderately diluted with fresh water. A few were exposed to fresh water with only occasional intrusions of sea water.
