Abstract: This study was requested by the Air Force Cambridge Research Center, Surface Studies Section, Terrestrial Sciences Laboratory, Geophysics Research Directorate, in letter to the Waterways Experiment Station dated 3 January 1957· Air Force Cambridge Research Center provided part of the necessary funds; the remainder of the funds was provided under CE Project 8-70-05-100, "Mobility of the Army." Acknowledgment is made to Mr. Carlton E. Molineux, Chief, Surface Studies Section, Terrestrial Sciences Laboratory, Geophysics Research Directorate, Air Force Cambridge Research Center, for suggesting the test program and for his part in providing the funds used in its conduct, and to Dr. A. A. Warlam, Consultant, for suggesting several revisions to the which improve it. The testing was planned and accomplished in 1957 by personnel of the Army Mobility Research Center, Waterways Experiment Station, under the direction of Mr. w. J. Turnbull, Chief, Soils Division, and Mr. C. R. Foster, Chief, Flexible Pavement Branch. Mr. C. A. Blackmon, engineer aide, was in charge of the field program; Miss Mary E. Smith, mathematician, assisted greatly in analysis of the data; Mr. S. J. Knight, Chief, Army Mobility Research Center, prepared this report.
