dc.description.abstract | The study reported herein was conducted to determine whether the sand mobility number that had been developed for circular-cross-section tires operating in a particular coarse-grained, air-dry soil could be used to predict the performance of rectangular cross-section tires in the same or a second coarse-grained, air-dry soil. Five rectangular-section tires were tested in each of two coarse-~rained soils, a desert sand from Yuma, Arizona, and a mortar-type sand from a river deposit near Vicksburg, Mississippi. The data collected in these tests were compared with relations previously developed from tests with circular-section tires in air-dry Yuma sand. Analysis of test results showed that the existing sand mobility number can be used to predict the performance of rectangular-section tires in both test sands. | en_US |
