Abstract: The study reported herein was conducted in 1970-71 by personnel of the Mobility Research Branch, Mobility and Environmental Division, U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES), in furtherance of DA Project 1T061102B52A, "Research in Military Aspects of Terrestrial Sciences," Task 01, "Military Aspects of Off-Road Mobility," under the sponsorship and guidance of the Research, Development and Engineering Directorate, U. S. Army Materiel Command. The tests were conducted under the general supervision of Messrs. W. G. Shockley, S. J. Knight, and A. J. Green and under the direct supervision of Dr. A. S. Lessem and Mr. N. R. Murphy, Jr., who developed the mathematical model and prepared this report. COL Levi A. Brown, CE, and COL Ernest D. Peixotto, CE, were Directors of the WES during this study and preparation of this report. Mr. F. R. Brown was Technical Director.
