Description: Potamology Report
Introduction: This paper describes the results obtained to date of a pioneer investigation being conducted by the Mississippi River Commission and the Waterways Experiment Station, Corps of Engineers, to measure turbulence in the Mississippi River. Included in the paper are descriptions of the development of instruments used for taking the measurements and of examples of the data, principally those obtained during the 1950 flood stages on the Mississippi River. The paper does not attempt a statistical and scientific analysis of the data, since there has not yet been time for such analysis, but outlines proposed continuations of the program which will include such analyses.
