Abstract: The study reported herein was conducted at the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) as a part of the vehicle mobility research program under Department of the Army Project 1T061102B52A, "Research in Military Aspects of Terrestrial Sciences," Task 01, "Military Aspects of Off-Road Mobility," under the sponsorship and guidance of the Research, Development and Engineering Directorate, U. S. Army Materiel Command. Tests for this study were performed by personnel of the Mobility Research Branch, Mobility and Environmental Division, WES, under the general supervision of Messrs. W. J. Turnbull, W. G. Shockley, and S. J. Knight, and Dr. D. R. Freitag, and und.er the direct supervision of Mr. J. L. Smith. Messrs. G. W.Turnage and L. J. Lanz directed the study, and Mr. Turnage prepared the report. COL John R. Oswalt, Jr., CE, COL Levi A. Brovm, CE, and COL Ernest D. Peixotto, CE, were Directors of WES during this study and the preparation and publication of this report. Messrs. J. B. Tiffany and F. R. Brown were Technical Directors.
