Abstract: | A finite element analysis of barge impact on the lower miter gate of Lock and Dam 26 is presented. The response of the structure was assumed to be linear and the barge impact was modeled as an equivalent static load. The analysis was originally intended to aid in planning full scale barge impact tests at Lock and Dam 26. Due to contract delays and the scheduled demolition of the gate, the analysis was not completed prior to testing. The results of the finite element analysis are presented and compared with the full scale test results. |
