Purpose: The basic procedures for establishing and maintaining airfields on sea ice are presented. Practical recommendations are given for the preliminary choice of location, exploratory field survey, and the construction of the airstrip. Estimates of the required sea ice thickness for landing various types of naval aircraft, with and without skis, are tabulated.
