Description: Research Report
Summary: A new method has been developed for growing large single crystals of ice. Crystals 15 cm in diameter by 25 cm high have been grown. No large differences exist for rate of growth in different crystallographic directions. The use of specially prepared water does not appreciably affect the results. The crystals grown by this method have a somewhat distorted appearance under polarized light. The nature of the imperfect structure is discussed.
