Abstract: The Southwest Florida Comprehensive Watershed Plan (SWFCWP) evolved out of the Southwest Florida Feasibility Study (SWFFS), which was initiated in 2001 to identify environmental problems and opportunities in Southwest Florida and develop a comprehensive watershed management plan for the region outside of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) geographic area. SWFFS was converted into SWFCWP to better address problems, needs, and opportunities within a regional watershed context and to recommend site-specific project implementation studies. The SWFCWP does not request authorization for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) participation in implementation of any of its plans that have been formulated for restoration of the Southwest Florida watershed. Instead, it identifies plans that could be implemented by others. To aid in implementation of the SWFCWP, this report proposes that appropriate agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) assist, if willing and able, in implementing various components of the SWFCWP.
