dc.descriptionAbstract: A review summary of the climatological environment of the Northern Hemisphere contains a general introduction to the cold regions and a discussion of geographic controls and meteorological aspects including: 1) the hemisphere surface in terms of configuration and relief, vegetation zones and permanent and seasonal ice and snow; 2) the general circulation and weather system dealing with the circumploar vortex, sea-level pressure and cyclonic frequency, circulation system persistence, and surface weather associated with high latitude pressures 3) the net radiation and heat balance.
