Abstract: The site of this study was Mount Moriah Cemetery, a historic cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. Several historical types of headstones dating from the middle of the 19th through the middle of the 20th century were imaged with a Leica P40 laser scanner. The objective of this study was to use three-dimensional laser imagining to collect specifics of lettering fonts and placement for appropriate replication. At least three scanning stations were used for each headstone. A total of 67 scans were taken. Lettering was traced and provided in digital format. These letters were further processed in AutoCAD. Three-dimensional imaging provided useful information that can be modeled and replicated for reconstruction of headstones.
