Abstract: Foreword: The current issue of EM 1110-2-1902, Stability of Earth and Rockfill Dams, was preceded by a manual, dated February 1952, covering Stability of Slopes and Foundations which was originally issued as Part CXIX of the Engineering Manual for Civil Works Construction. The earlier manual included a comprehensive description of methods for analyzing the stability of slopes and foundations that was later considered too detailed for a design manual but which has proved to be useful as a convenient summary of design methods. Since a comparable description of these methods is not readily available in technical publications, the February 1952 manual has been reprinted as a technical report to make it available for use in design activities of the Corps of Engineers.
