Abstract: Synopsis: The investigation of stability of asphalt paving mixtures was authorized by the Chief of Engineers in a letter to the President, The Engineer Board, dated 13 September 1043. This interim report will be confined solely to that portion of the investigation which requires the development of a simple apparatus suitable for use with the present field California Bearing Ratio (CBR) equipment to design and control asphalt paving mixtures. Sufficient additional material is introduced only to provide an appreciation for the necessity to control stability and establishing limiting values.
