Abstract: | Abstract: The Center for the Advancement of Sustainability Innovations (CASI) was established by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) as a new capability in 2006 hosted at the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) in Champaign, IL. CASI was established with the goal of focusing the value of ERDC expertise, technologies, and partnerships toward helping the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Army, and the Department of Defense (DoD) achieve more sustainable facilities and operations. CASI provides the military with capabilities that enhance national security by more effectively using limited resources and improving coordination and partnerships with host communities and stakeholders in the United States and around the globe. CASI teams strive to measure sustainability innovations against the Triple Bottom Line of mission, environment, and community. CASI focuses on cost savings, innovation, collaborative solutions, and continuous learning—which directly link sustainability to Army policy and guidance documents including Army Installations 2025; Installations, Energy and Environment Strategy 2025; Army Environment, Safety, & Occupational Health Strategy 2025; and Energy Security and Sustainability (ES2) Strategy. Note that this “summary of sustainability-related publications” incorporates descriptions of work related to the theme of sustainability conducted under many ERDC programs as well as CASI. |
