dc.description.abstract | Syllabus: This memorandum describes the results of experiments conducted at the U. S. Waterways Experiment Station to determine the relative permeabilities of small-scale models of all-stone jetties of the "chip-stone-core" type. Three general types of model jetties were tested, the three types differing only in the size-distribution of the material in the jetty cores. For each type of jetty model, two conditions of compaction of the core material were tested, one with the cores closely compacted, and the other with the cores loosely arranged. Thus, six different models were tested. It was found as a result of the tests: (a) that Jetty No. 3, having the largest percentage of fine materials in the core, was the least permeable; (b) that' Jetty No. 2, having the smallest percentage of fine materials in the core, was the most permeable; and (c) that a close compaction of the core produced a jetty which was considerably less permeable than the jetty whose core was loosely arranged. | en_US |
