Abstract: Purpose: This After-Action Report on the collapse of the Silver Bridge at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, on 15 December 1967, relates: a. The immediate and subsequent actions taken by the US Army Engineer District, Huntington. b. The sequence of events which involved Government and contractor personnel, plant, and materials. c. The areas of coordination with local, state, and Federal agencies. Since this was a disaster of sudden nature and broadspread in its disruptive effects, it involved all segments of local, state, national, and public interests. The actions taken by the Huntington District, Corps of Engineers, can serve as a pattern for action by other Districts in incidents of a similar nature. The timely reaction of the Corps of Engineers to this unprecedented event and the acceptance of its leadership by all concerned establishes a basis for future actions.
