Description: | Technical memorandum Preface: The pavement evaluation report presented herein was requested by Headquarters U.S.Air Force in the 1st endorsement dated 30 July to a letter from the Office, Chief of Engineers, dated 20 July 1951, subject "Zone of Interior Pavement Evaluation."Authority for the Waterways Experiment Station to conduct the studies is contained in the 1st endorsement dated 2 August to a letter to the Office, Chief of Engineers, dated 25 May 1951, subject "Zone of Interior Pavement Evaluation." The airfields at which studies are conducted are recommended by the Waterways Experiment Station subject to modification by the Office of Chief of Engineers, and Headquarters U.S Air Force. Campbell Air Force Base was designated for evaluation in the 1st endorsement dated 30 July 1951 referred to above. The field work at Campbell Air Force Base was accomplished by the Waterways Experiment Station evaluation team in October 1951. The team was composed of Mr. z. B. Fry, soils and pavement engineer, and Messrs. W. J. Harper, J. G. Kennedy, C. L. Tisdell, and J. F. Nixon, soils technicians. This report was prepared by Mr. J. F. Redus. The investigation was performed under the general supervision of Messrs. CharlesR. Foster and W. J. Turnbull. Acknowledgment is made to the officers and men of Campbell Air Force Base for their assistance and co~operation in the field studies. |
