Description: Technical memorandum
Introduction: This memorandum constitutes a report on an investigation of the stability of that portion of the Lake Okeechobee Levee System located in Division2, Section 1, Station 875 + 00 to Station 1100 + 00. This portion of the levee system around Lake Okeechobee has been referred to as the cracked levee section and has been so designated because a longitudinal crack developed in the vicinity of its crown soon after its construction was completed. Concern regarding the stability of the structure and its foundation has been felt because of the crack referred to above. The investigation reported herein offers an explanation of the cause of the crack and presents the results of an analysis of the stability of the side slope and foundation, together with suggestions for the repair unit.
