Description: | Technical memorandum Preface: The investigation described herein was conducted as two separate series of tests. Both series were performed as a part of Civil Works Investigation, Item CW 6oo, "General Concrete Research." The first series was authorized by the Office, Chief of Engineers, in a letter dated 20 December 1949, subject, "Field Study of Methods for Determination of Air Content of Plastic Concrete." It was conducted at Clark Hill Dam on the Savannah River, Georgia, under the supervision of Messrs. Walter O. Crawley and Ralph A. Bendinelli of the Waterways Experiment Station, with the cooperation and assistance of Messrs. F. W. Facey, Jr., resident engineer and Ted Neelands, concrete engineer at Clark Hill, personnel of the South Atlantic Division Materials Testing Laboratory, and Messrs. Walle, field superintendent and Crowley, master mechanic of Allstate Constructors, Inc., the contractor. The second series of tests was authorized by the Office, Chief of Engineers, in the first endorsement, dated 2 August 1951, to a letter from the Waterways Experiment Station dated 21 June 1951, subject, "Transmittal of Draft of Report, 'Investigation of Field Methods for Determining Air Content of Mass Concrete.'" It was conducted at Pine Flat Dam, on the Kings River, California, during August 1951, under the supervision of Messrs. C. H. Willetts of the Waterways Experiment Station and Louis Gerdin of the South Pacific Division Laboratory, with the cooperation and assistance of Messrs. R. B. Jenkinson, resident engineer; and W. G. Mitchell, concrete engineer at Pine Flat. This report was prepared by W. O. Crawley, c. H. Willetts, and T. B. Kennedy. |
