dc.description | Preface: The Vicksburg Infiltration Project was inaugurated in 1951 as a cooperative soil-moisture study conducted by the Forest Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, for the Waterways Experiment Station, Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army. The study is part of a comprehensive investigation being conducted by the Waterways Experiment Station to determine the trafficability of soils in relation to the mobility of military vehicles. The investigation of soils trafficability, assigned to the Waterways Experiment Station, is divided into two phases: (1) the development of instruments and method a for determining trafficability by ground reconnaissance parties; and (2) the development of methods of predicting trafficability from soils and weather data to enable military planners to forecast the trafficability of soils in an area without physical tests. | - |
