dc.description | Preface: In 1950 an experimental relief well system was installed along the landside toe of the levee at Trotters (Mi 54), Mississippi to study the control of underseepage by means of relief wells and the performance of a well system over an extended period of time. A description of the geological features of the site, characteristics of the foundation, design of the well system, and analysis of all piezometric and well flow data obtained during the high waters of 1943, 1950, and 1951, and the data obtained from pumping tests conducted when the wells were installed are reported in "Control of Underseepage by Relief Wells, Trotters, Mississippi," WES T.M. 3-341, April 1952. Analysis of the data obtained during the 1952 high water and the results of pumping tests made in 1953 on selected wells are presented in appendices B and C. These appendices were published in February 1954. Appendix D contains the analysis and summary of piezometric and well flow data obtained during the high water of' March-April 1955. Appendix E presents the description and analysis of pumping tests made on selected wells during February-and March 1957 to compare the yield of certain wells with that obtained 1n 1950 when the wells were installed. The study is under the general supervision of Messrs. W. J. Turnbull, Chief; Soils Division; W. G. Shockley, Chief', Embankment and Foundation Branch; and R. I. Kaufman, Chief', Design and Analytical Section, Waterways Experiment Station. Data on the performance of the well system during the 1955 high-water period was obtained by personnel of the Memphis District under the direction of Messrs. J. W. Black and J. M. Pollock of the Memphis District. The 1957 pumping tests were conducted under the supervision of Messrs. T. B. Goode, Chief, Inspection and Exploration Section, and A. L. Mathews, Engineer, Inspection and Exploration Section, Waterways Experiment Station. The analysis of data contained herein was made by Messrs. J. D. Perrine, Engineer, Design and Analytical Section, and c. C. Blanchard, Engineer, formerly of the Design and Analytical Section, Waterways Experiment Station. This report was prepared by Messrs. Kaufman and Perrine. | - |
