dc.description.abstractPreface: The tests reported herein are a part of the studies conducted by the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station under Corps of Engineers Subproject 8S70-05-001-02, "Surface 1'1obility," Project 8S7-05-001,"Trafficability and Mobility Research." Acknowledgment is made to the following for their cooperation in providing test vehicles, assisting in selecting test areas, or both: Dr. John W. Marr, Director of the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado; Major J. H. Weaver, Commanding Officer, Engineer Test Team, Fort Churchill, Manitoba, Canada; Major H. Stone, Commanding Officer, Transportation Research and Engineering Command Test Team,. Houghton, Michigan; Mr. W. H. Parrot, Director SIPRE Keweenaw Field Station, Houghton, Michigan; Land Locomotion Research Laboratory Test Team, Houghton, Michigan; Mr. J. G. Thomson, who was in charge of the Directorate of Vehicle Development Test Team, at Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada; and Captain M. H. Camfield, G4, Fort Carson, Colorado, who was responsible for coordinating the test program at Camp Hale, Colorado. Acknowledgment is also made to Dr. A. A. Warlam, consultant, for his assistance and suggestions offered during the Boulder, Houghton, and Camp Hale test programs. These tests were performed by personnel of the Army Mobility Research Center, Soils Division, Waterways Experiment Station, under the supervision of Messrs. W. J, Turnbull, C. R. Foster, and S. J. Knight. Engineers actively engaged in the study were Messrs. A. A. Rula, who was directly in charge of the field work, D. R. Freitag, and E. S. Rush. Mr. R. G. Temple provided major assistance in tabulating data and preparing the tables and plates for this report. This report was prepared by Messrs. C. A. Blackmon and A. A. Rula. Directors of the Waterways Experiment Station during this study were Col. A. P. Rollins, Jr., CE, and Col. Edmund H. Lang, CE. Technical Director was Mr. J. B. Tiffany.-
