Description: | Technical memorandum Introduction: This report presents the results of a model study of proposed channel alterations .in the vicinity of Coney Island Dike, below Dam No. 36, Ohio River. These alterations had for their purpose the reduction of hazards to navigation which now exist in that reach of the river from Dam No. 36 to immediately below Coney Island Dike. Formed by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, the Ohio River flows for 981 miles in a generally southwesterly direction, emptying into the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois. At 10 stages the river is rendered navigable by means of a system of locks and dams. Certain hazards to navigation at both low and medium stages are present immediately below the lock at Dam No.36. These structures are located in the river about 10 miles upstream from Cincinnati, Ohio (see Plate 1). |
