Purpose: The model study reported herein was concerned with the optimum widths of openings for the operation of the Morganza Floodway control structure. The specific items of information sought were the effects of various widths of structure openings, both with and without an auxiliary crevasse in the levee at the head or the floodway, upon the discharge of the Morganza Floodway, and the resulting distribution of flow in the latitude of Old River during floods of the magnitudes of the 1927 and project floods.
