Introduction: Blakely Mountain Dam is located at the head of Lake Hamilton on the Ouachita River approximately 10 mi northwest of Hot Springs, Ark. (plate 1). The principal purposes of the project are flood control and the generation of power. The lake created by the dam will cover approximately 40,000 acres at maximum power pool level. The project consists of an earth dam approximately 230 ft high, a flood-control conduit and stilling basin, power penstocks, power house, spillway, and other appurtenant structures. The spillway is separate from the dam and is located in a saddle on the right abutment ridge about a mile from the dam
