Description: Technical memorandum
Synopsis: The improvement and relocation of approximately 2.4 miles of levee on the south bank of Clear Creel: in Alexander and Union Counties, Illinois, have been proposed. In view of past experience with the weak foundation of levees in adjacent areas, it was deemed advisable to undertake an extensive investigation of the foundation for the proposed levee. This investigation has been accomplished and indicates that the following sections are necessary for the stability of the proposed levee. From Station 320 ± to Station 432 ±, a net section with sides slopes of 1 on 3. 5 is adequate; from Station 432 ± to Station 445 ± a section having net side slopes of 1 on 8.0 and berms on both sides (Figure 5), is recommended. Use of the sections described above will permit construction of the levee to full gross grade immediately, without resorting to partial construction now and completion at a later date.
