Description: Technical memorandum
Synopsis: This memorandum constitutes a report on the results of tests conducted at the U.S. Waterways Experiment Station on a model of the Narrows Dam stilling basin. The general purpose of the tests was to examine the hydraulic performance of the stilling basin are designed by the Fargo Engineering Company of Jackson, Michigan, under the supervision of the Lower Mississippi Valley Division, Vicksburg, Mississippi, An existing 1-to-24 undistorted scale section model of the· Conemaugh Dam was used for the tests. Inasmuch as the height of the Conemaugh Dam was less than the Narrows Dam, the model heights were made to agree by selecting a model scale ratio of 1 to 41.4; the discharge per ft of width was made to agree with the Narrows Dam conditions. All details of the stilling basin were constructed in accordance with the Narrows Dam drawings to the scale of 1 to 41.4.
