Preface: The tests reported herein form a part of CWI Item No. 601, "Research in Mass Concrete," an item of the Civil Works Investigations program of the Office, Chief of Engineers. The work was done at the Concrete Division of the Waterways Experiment Station under the supervision of Messrs. Herbert K. Cook and Bryant Mather. Mr. Leonard Pepper, Chief, Chemistry Section, assisted by Mr. E. J. Callan and other members of the staff, performed the tests and prepared the report.
