Description: | Technical memorandum Preface: The geologic studies of the Old River Closure control structure and lock sites were requested on 4 April 1949 by the President, Mississippi River Commission. Field work was started in April and continued to September 1949. Soil borings were put down partly by the Waterways Experiment Station and partly by the New Orleans District, CE. The review of data and compilation of' this report were accomplished in the Geology Branch of the Soils Division, Waterways Experiment Station. Personnel actively engaged in the studies were Messrs. P. R. Mabrey and W. B. Steinreide, Jr. under the immediate supervision of' J. R. Schultz and the general supervision of W. J. Turnbull. Prior to publication of this report, an interim report vas submitted to the President, Mississippi River Commission, by letter dated 3 June 1949, subject: "Preliminary Geological Investigation or Old River Control and Lock Structure Sites. |
