Preface: In November 1951 the Office, Chief of Engineers, authorized initiation of an investigational program entitled "Grouting of Foundation Sands and Gravels, 11 CWI 506, to investigate the feasibility of grouting foundation sands using modifications of existing grouting procedures, with particular reference to cement grouts; consideration was also to be given to new grouts. In January 1952, a library study of chemical analysis of ground water was added by the Office, Chief of Engineers, to the grouting program. The investigation consisted primarily of a review of pertinent information and grouting tests on different sands utilizing various grouts in the laboratory. This study was performed by the Embankment and Foundation Branch of the Soils Division, Waterways Experiment Station. Engineers actively connected with the study were Messrs. H. J. Turnbull, W. G. Shockley, A. A. Maxwell, C. I. Mansur, R. W. Cunny, J. L. McCall, Jr., W. C. Sherman, and Corporal R. V. Lord, Jr. During performance of the studies, three interim reports were prepared by J. L. McCall, Jr., and submitted to the Office, Chief of Engineers, covering the literature review and laboratory data on phases I and II of the testing. This report represents a compilation and reanalysis of data presented in the interim reports and was prepared by Corporal Lord
