Abstract: Abstract: The report considers fundamental issues of the constitutive modeling of rocks with internal cracks and pores. Phenomenological and micromechanically inspired damage models for brittle deformation of rocks are formulated. Representation of damage by various order damage tensors and derivation of the corresponding effective elastic stiffness and compliance tensors are given. Isotropic and transversely isotropic responses are considered, with applications to uniaxial and biaxial stress loadings. The presented model provides a general framework for a rational, micromechanically inspired, continuum modeling of brittle porous rocks.
