Abstract: | Purpose: This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Dredging Operations and Environmental Research (DOER) Program technical note (TN) explains processes that contribute to infilling of channels and basins in coastal regions where salt water and fresh water mix. It briefly discusses methods to reduce this infilling. Future activities of this DOER research task will identify connections between infilling mechanisms and forcing data. This will aid in developing a general method to use these types of data collectively as a tool to estimate future dredging volumes as well as likely location and sediment composition of these dredging events. |
