Description: | Miscellaneous Paper Abstract: This report represents Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) Level II documentation of Space Launch Complex 5 (SLC-5), Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB), California. SLC-5 is one of approximately 70 VAFB facilities and complexes that have been determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Five buildings at SLC-5 are eligible for the NRHP under “Cold War Criterion A” as a result of their historic role in supporting missions of exceptional importance during the Cold War. These facilities are also eligible under “Cold War Criterion D” as a result of SLC-5’s distinctive launch technology that had been relatively unchanged since the early 1960s.
