Description: Technical Report
Abstract: This report documents the design and construction of a penetration device, the PQS probe, which is capable of simultaneously measuring penetration resistance, friction resistance, and pore pressures induced in soil by the advance of the probe. Also included are limited field data obtained in initial testing. The PQS probe has performed well in the tests conducted to date and has proved to be both reliable and to provide consistent results. The evidence of this and earlier studies by other investigators indicates that induced pore pressures are linked to soil properties or conditions, rather than being controlled by test procedures.
